Thanks for the help folks!
It took just over an hour - and we cannot begin to count the hours that went in to planning, making and installing it.
Thanks to Dan'L, Kathryn, Patty, Kim, Shannon, Erin for taking down the art and loading up the Volvo - and to all the other people who stopped in for coffee and took a piece home...

It's Coming Down this Saturday 9/4
Yes - it's true - all things have a season... and this On the Fence project is ending. Come out this Saturday at 9am to help take down the images - we'll bring scissors and blades - feel free to bring your own -
We'll be clipping the ties and hauling everything that isn't claimed off to the dump.*
Coffee and donuts will be there too!
Thanks for your support and encouragement on this project - what a terrific collaboration between corporate space and community interest... all in the name of ART!
Keep in touch,
Pam & Anne
*Many folks have expressed interest in taking home a piece or two from the Fence installation - if you show up at 9,
you can get in line to choose one. We're asking for a donation to Groundswell NW - our fiscal sponsor and fantastic advocate for public projects in the area.

A Great Time Saturday Night
A community gathering with the greater Ballard ArtWalk last night. Thanks to The Diminished Men for great music, Jeff Hoover at Market St. Safeway for water and melons, and all the friends who showed up to celebrate Art in the city.

Seven Panels up on the Fence
We've been prepping, weatherproofing, enlarging, cutting and rolling paint... finally a good day to spend on the corner, installing more ART. Check it out when you are in East Ballard - there will be more going up every week through mid-July.

Adjusting for Weather
With the torrential rains, we are taking a bit more time to prep the pieces before installing. The photo here shows different test panels and materials attached to the fence site.
Therefore, we are not meeting our original timeline for getting several panels up this week...
Watch here for the latest progress.

First Draft
We put up a prototype section of the fence on Thursday... just clipped it on for an hour and took it down after photos. The response and conversation with neighbors and drivers during that time was fantastic! Everyone was so happy about the idea that we would be putting a much bigger version up this summer. We will start rolling installing in June... rolling it out slowly over several weeks.
The theme is loosely organized around the alphabet - with each 12 foot wide panel referencing a letter. Not necessarily in ABCD order, and using Ballard imagery along with obscure images that we like.
Still collecting large cardboard panels (think appliance boxes, etc) and usable free stuff. Contact us with ideas.

This is the corner
Starting this June of 2010, Pam Gray and Anne Baumgartner will be installing panels of cardboard and other recycled materials right on these fence panels that surround the vacant construction site owned by Avalon Bay Properties. While the lot is empty, we will be infusing the scene with energy and images - panel by panel. Watch this blog for updates on themes and events happening in the neighborhood and sidewalks.
***We are interested in volunteer helpers and donations of usable material headed for the trash or recycle bin... Our goal is to use as much of this stuff as possible.
